Can I run my 92 j0hnson with the oil tank level sensor disonnected?

The oil tank level sending unit is causing the warning system to constantly be on--constantly whistling--the oil tank is full. I unplugged the sending unit at the connection on the motor and it instantly shuts off. Can the engine be run safely with that unit disconnected? That is, does it have anything to do with getting the oil to the engine or is it merely to let me know that the oil tank is low?

Or even better, does anyone know--does this symptom mean that sensor is bad and if it was replaced I would be ok? or is this indicative of another problem?

Convert the pump to run premix and you no longer have to worry about it.

Thanks, but I would really like to keep the system in tact as much as possible. Anyone have an answer to the question?

You can run it that way, but you'll need to closely monitor oil levels. Order the part, and install it as soon as you can.

You can disconnect any or all of the alarms. They warn you of potential problems which you can act on or ignor - your call - your risk.
