Can I safely fight corrosion with WD40?

I spray down my engine and other metal parts with WD40 when I winterize my boat. I plan on taking my boat to the ocean. Is it safe to spray down my engine with WD40 every once in a while? I know WD40 can ignite when in vapor form (very fun to test), but I've noticed a light film does not burn. I'm worried the the WD40 can evaporate and create an explosive situation. Are there any other products that don't combust that can be sprayed in an engine room to keep things from corroding?

try some real fogging oil in a spray can,or ,a product called fluid film,or,Krown vehicle rust protectant,or,and this is supposed to be the best, a product called Boeshield, made for and used by boeing air craft corp. wd40 is a water displacement product originaly developed for the military to stop missiles from sticking in their launch tubes

LPS 3 in my experience has been the best product for corrosion protection, i live in the northeast rust belt and spray down my aluminum truck rims and the stuff really sticks I spend a couple hours getting it back off in the spring, it drys to a waxy coating, WD-40 looks nice when you spray it on but 3 days later it's gone LPS stays on there for good.

+1 on the LPS 3, its good stuff. I've sprayed GALLONS of it on commercial aircraft as specified by the mfg. We bought it in 5 gallon buckets. I personally buy it in 16 oz cans....WD40 is too light weight. Be careful with the LPS 3 though, its thick!

WD40 attracts salt and should not be used on boats, guns, fishing gear. This will be seen as heresy to those of us whose tool kits consisted entirely of WD40 and duct tape. Use another product. For coating things, I like aerosol white lithium grease.

I also use Fluid Film, it is a great product. It forms a thick waxy coating that seems to work well. (I use my boat in the ocean)

I also use Fluid Film, it's made from wool wax, so I will not burn, and is ecofriendly near water. I use it on my snowblower, lawnmower, car and boat, and I really like the stuff!

WD40 works as well as anything, if not better, since it doesn't cause a build-up overtime.

I give mine a couple of shots here and there every couple of months. Twelve years and 2000 plus hours of SW use and barely a hint of corrosion under the cover.
