can i use a bilge pump as an aerator pump?

i have this aerator pump which dosent work it screws in a mount in the back of the boat, i also have a bilge pump that looks exactly the same as it. it works fine. could i use that instead? (i bought a new pump not realizing the old one didnt work because of a clogged hose)

bilge pump won't suck air. you'll have to put it in water to work.

If the pump itself connects to the housing of your old aeriator pump when removing the bottom of the bilge pump then the pump itself will be fine. But using a bilge pump as an aeriator pump won't work because the aeriator pump sucks water from outside the hull. The bilge pump has to be submerged to work. But like I said if the bottom housing of the aeriator pump and the bottom housing of the bilge pump connect to the motors the same , and the new pump doesn't leak then it will work.

Yes, the housing fits and the aerator pump housing isa thru hull fitting. the only concern i have is the aerator has an O ring on it. and this dosent.

the black part is the thru hull fitting.

If the pump is interchangeable your good. You can make or buy an 0-ring

I have a bilge pump as my aerator and it works great, had to make an aerator bar from a peice of garden hose with holes drilled in it bu it works great, I have it on a switch and a timer so you can have it automatic or flip it on whenever.
