Can i use a Fluke meter with Min/Max fuction to test DVA readings

I have a 2004 Johnson 90Hp V4 that is having problems, missing and shaking hard when under throttle. I have disconnected the tan temp switch leads to no avail. I have researched the testing of this motor and think that I know what to test. The motor runs great when cold, but after 15 min running it starts to miss. I believe from what I have read (problems from other motors) that it is probably the power pack but I want to make sure($300.00). I have a fluke multi meter at work that will measure Min/Max, will this work or do I need a DVA meter?? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Lee

You can get by with a DVA adapter for your meter, you do not need a whole new specialty meter.

Try esitest.com or rapair.com for the adapters

yes you need an adaptor... i run flukes (an old 8 and a new 88V) and they require a dva to diagnose outboards

Ok, I have a fluke meter at work that I can use and wanted to know if one with a Min/Max function would work.

The pulse happens too fast for the meter to register, even with peak hold.

I've got one of the older model 87 flukes and curosity got me to looking at the manual. In the min/max mode I can set it for 1ms response time for peak readings. Wouldn't that be fast enough? If not I've got a schematic somewhere for building a direct voltage adaptor (DVA). All it requires is some wire, a diode, and a capacitor, and a 1 meg resistor.

There's your ticket. It is an insanely simple circuit, just an RC network to buffer the pulse.

I don't know the math on the 1ms peak resolution, 2K RPM is 33 revs/sec and there's like 12 pulses per rev. That's like 400 pulses per second or one pulse every 2.5ms . I don't know the pulse width, though, which is probably the actual issue.
