Can I use a ?universal? key switch in my 72' 100HP Johnson?

Just to see where I am coming from, here is the wiring I currently have for the original key switch:
http://forums.iboats.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=124883&d=1323655178

Notice there is 4 leads to the ignition(IGN), all purple! Actually one is a dark purple and the rest are a lighter purple. From what I understand, they don’t make a switch built like this anymore. So once again wondering if I can tap into the knowledge on the site here.

Question1: Would I be separating the “magneto’s “ from the current IGN terminal on the old key switch? Being the novice outboard mechanic I am, I’m only guessing with my question here cause I can’t find a switch that looks like my old one. Or does it even have magneto to wire to? This site recommends part number 0386947, which looks to have 'M' terminals to wire to.

Question 2: My Dad has a 6 terminal switch that has a push choke (it’s a 3 position off, on, start) that he is willing just to give away. I know the above model doesn’t have a push choke on it so I was thinking I could just not wire the ‘C’ terminal to anything and wire the other 5 terminals (putting the choke wire from the old key switch on the A/I terminal). My electric choke is actually a toggle switch that is just below the key. Would that work? Is there other variables to consider?

Here is the universal wiring:

If I have this all wrong please feel free to correct me. I’ve done a lot of research on this but still I don’t know if what I’m thinking is right. Thanks.

If you are sure you have a 1972 100hp, here is the diagram. Yes, an "universal" switch will work. You don't have any M terminals to worry about.

If you have something other than a 1972 100hp, it is a whole different ball game.

EDIT: Yep, I just noticed you gave the model number. That's what it is alright. BTW, nice diagram you posted. I drew it.

OK, so the wiring will look like this on the universal, right?

C = nothing

M = nothing

M = nothing

B = Red with purple stripe

S = White

A or I = the four purple leads (hope I can fit 4)

That was a handy diagram. Must have taken some time!

Yep. Use a longer screw if you have to. You could connect the purple/white stripe choke wire to the C terminal if you want the push-to-choke to work. Personally, I prefer the toggle.
