can i use car water pump on my omc 5.0

I have a fuel injected omc cobra 5.0 and wanted to replace the water pump. Can i use a car one? I only use the boat in fresh water never sees salt water. or are the flows different between marine and car. thanks in advance

You need a marine one unless you have closed cooling.

The main difference in the marine and auto pumps is the stainless backing plate.
If your NEVER gonna run in salt water it won't hurt.
Or you can change the plates around.

Seals, and the shaft(brass) the seal rides on is also different. Auto impeller needs to run with coolant to survive.

It's such false economy to not use a marine pump here and the cost difference is not that much.
