Can I use old two-stroke oil??

A friend of mine just moved out of state and gave me some 3-5 year old two stroke oil mix. My question is can i use this oil with fresh gas? Will it effect the performance of my outboards any? The oil containers are opened but kept in a garage since last being used. Any advice people?

opened container that i have not maintained, would not go into my motor. it is TC-W3 rated outboard motor oil. if not put it in the lawn mower.

If the container(s) are opened don't use it in anything you want to keep.
