hook a fish finder up, the post i used sprayed a lot of water up and out of the river onto the top of the moter. would this cause a fireing miss? we ran it out of gas (all new fuel systym to the motor) it stalled, filled it back up and it rolles over just wont crank. do i need to prime it in some way? the water isnt shooting out of the moter like it did, i just changed the impeller a couple of months ago. any suggestions?

if you think its a water intrusion problem.....wipe clean any electrical parts with a clean dry rag

Yes and if outboard, they are designed to let the air in so that the engine can breathe and keep the water out. Sometimes you can completely submerge them in a following sea and they will keep on pushing. All the wiring is moisture protected...if you had any problem of the sort, it would be water ingestion into the combustion chamber (carburetor).

Did you pump the ball in the gas line after you ran it out of gas, if not it will take a long time for the engione pump fuel from the tank if it will at all.

Water shouldn't have done that, I have fished in some really really heavy rain and never had a probelm.

Sounds like it's an outboard and you need to prime the carb bowl. You should have a primer bulb inline with the fuel line. Squeeze it slowly and gently until it's firm. Should fire right off.

Water ingestion would have hydro locked your motor, it sound like a vapor lock or frozen bowl valve when you run it dry.

Probably would have on a diesel, but on a gas, all it would do is to possibly render the effected cylinder unusable, or operating at reduced capacity, and steam cleaned the combustion chamber. BTDT.
