Re: Can my truck pull my boat?
Won't-float, you don't need a 250, a 150 with a v-8 and a tow package will do just fine. It should have a tow rating of about 7000 to 8000 lbs and about 500 to 800 lbs tounge weight. I would not pull this on a bumper, but I will not pull anything on a bumper.

JB, as far as tow ratings in 4X2 vs 4X4 and manual vs standard it it pretty simple to realize really.

A manual need human intervention to apply the clutch to the clutch plate and transfer power will pullling off. This can only be done with so much precision. In a manual, the clutches are constantly engaged once it is put into gear and they have more pressure applied as the engine revs building the hydrolic pressure inside the tranny.

In a 4X4, there is an extra set of gears and drive linkages that are not in a two wheel drive. These extra linkages and gears actually weaken the drive train a bit.

TO get the most pulling capacity fro your truck, get one with a beefed up springs, low to mid-range rear-end, auto trans with cooler, large v-8 and 4X2. This will give you the max towing capacity from a production truck in that class range. Also, standard cab vs extended cab even makes a difference. The more weight on the truck, the less it can tow.

Won't float, take your boat to a truck stop that has scales and weigh it. Good luck in your search for an F-150.
