can not get outdrive back on

hey all. i took my volvo sx outdrive off replaced shifter cable checked and greased gimbal/ujoint and cannot get the o/d back on..it only goes to the studs and stops i tried everything for 3 hours alll different angles tapping on it wiggleing it turning engine over and will not budge..ANY IDEAS?

When was the last time you checked the engine to drive alignment. May need to be done I had the same problem a year ago bought an alignment tool now the drive slides right in.

i checked the alignment with a homemade tool that i got from the specs in a forum on here and it seems to be ok ..the tool slid in pretty easily..i tried cleaning the shaft completely and tried greasing it..

If you put grease on the 2 o-rings that may prevent you from getting it on.

Did you try to turn the prop shaft a bit and then try again??

If he is at the studs, the shaft should already be engaged into the coupler.

Ok finallly got it back on..it ended up being the old grease in the coupler..I taped a toothbrush to a fishing pole and scrubbed the old grease out and it slid right on...thanks forthe suggestions..I will have more questions later..
