can someone help me decode the year of this engine?

Looking at some parts for my engine and this is the serial the owner gave me on his engine. A636150 tried to figure out the year but had no luck

In other words - it this a Mercruiser? Volvo? OMC? Yahama? What?

It's a 350 engine Mercruiser, (i have an OMC Cobra SX drive)

It's a 97-2001 motor and has the power steering pump mounted high above.

I bought a set of Marine Power FWC kit only to find out that it won't fit on my motor because of the power steering pump location. First photo shows how my engine is, 2nd photo shows how the other fresh water cooled is. See how it's longer and goes across the whole engine? The kit that I need cost $1200 which I can't afford.

Look at the area just above the starter, aft, should be a Mercruiser tag riveted to the cylinder block with the serial number.

The A636150 is not a good Mercruiser serial number. The 0Axxxxxx serial number ranges came from 82 to 86.
