this forum is great and i'm glad i found it! I have a 115 johnny, J115eledr, and i am pretty sure the fuel pump side of vro is going out. oiling side has been disconnected for a couple of years. can this model be changed to the older style pump on the block and/or is the 150.00 kit for the fuel side a good choice?

It can be converted, run a search on how to do it, there are several posts on doing it. Not sure of cost, you will have to look up the parts to find prices.

I highly recomend changing to the pulse pump type fuel pumps, they are simple, reliable and rebuilds are cheap and easy. The pumps themselvs are of a standard size and the replacement is fairly easy. Goto the evinrude page and look under parts. My motor is an E150TRXCNM, look it up and look at the fuel pump section, it has a nice diagram of what you'll be looking for.

thnaks for the insight gentlemen. i may have jumped the gun a little. just got a chance to mess with this thing a bit. after warming up all 4 cylinders have 117 120 psi on comp test. with it running at idle and 2000 rpm the strbrd side lower cyl would not change performance when plug wire was pulled. the other 3 did. pulled both strbrd carbs disassembled lower and found no cause for concern. installed both carbs switchin cylinders with em for giggles. sure enuff now top cylinder has no effect with plug wire off. perhaps the float drop is insufficent? the float and needle and a rubber gasket on the side seem to be the only seviceable part. the float hung about 1" +/- 1/8" and seem to close needle operating by hand. this thing starts hard and will drop rpm at 3/4 throttle slowing to a snails pace without touching the controls after running good for 10 15 minutes. i leaned toward fuel pump at first now i'm more confused. i teed in a 1-10 psi gauge on rubber line that feeds strbrd carbs and it didnt flinch with motor running at any speed. just trying to get a fuel pressure reading. i dont know a spec for it but would like to pinpoint this thing. thanks a bunch!

I give this advice out allot as I feel it is really worthwhile. Aside from actually putting a tester on the fuel line, I recomend installing a clear glass fuel filter with a replaceable element in a horizontol position under your cowling. This lets you see the fuel flow and is a good indicator of how the fuel pumps are working, it also lets you see any crap that's getting past your main fuel/water sepperator/filter. I've found it convient to be able to just look at it when I am trouble shooting. If it looks slow, than put a gage on it.

so i rebuilt the vro and no change. put on new fuel line to tank(already had new primer) put clear inline filter in right after bulb and it keeps fuel in it but in appears it only pulls from tank after revving engine and rpms start coming down..? then at idle it will run for 5 to 15 minutes or even longer then start to die like 1 or more cyls are dropping out but all 4 show fire with timing lite. it will recover itself sometimes and other times it will die. workin on this thing to help a friend out but getting aggrevated quickly now. could this be an air leak on fuel side? its a deck boat with built in tank. i ran it on a 5 gallon can for a while and seemed ok. do the poly tanks go bad(like get holes?) btw anti siphon valve was clean and moved freely with hand vaccum pump.oh yeah put akit in that one throttle body i mentioned earlier, no change there either. does this engine have SLOW on it. new to this stuff and appreciative of all help.

Some possible causes of fuel delivery problems:

. air leak on pump suction side (bad clamp, cracked hose, cracked tank pickup tube, etc., etc.)
. malfunctioning anti-siphon valve
. plugged tank vent
. trash blocking tank pickup screen
. plugged fuel filter
. collapsed fuel line
