can trim senders be disassembled, or are they embedded in potting compound?

And why try taking the measurements with cumbersome clips and activities at the transom...my disconnect is in the engine compartment, tied to part of a main wiring harness...so why not disconnec there?

And for that matter, why not just disconnect the two leads at the meter to set the 11 ohms initial setting?

My sender's acting funny...and being a tech' and all, I don't know why these can't be made as serviceable parts for the sending unit by replacing the pot for $6, waterproofing the connections, re-potting, etc...and not shelling out $150 each....???

Or is that an unbreakable epoxy they're embedded in. I see no gasket/oring on the nut side of the pot...potential area for water intrustion to screw them up in the first place? And what about the wiring...I have a 3-wire which seems to just end...I know the other versions only have 2. I only end up with 2 at my actual gauge...

And I see rubber dry-rot where the three units enter the sender at 90 degrees...I see little attempt to try and keep that waterproofed with all the flex and vib these units suffer....

Thanks!

My advice is save your money and don't worry about fixing it. Pretty much a useless gauge.

Actually I like to be able to see the gauge, and use it while launching, and while pulling tubers so I get smooth and even planing, and also getting the engine to run a bit smoother with less throttle.

Give it a try, they don't work now, what do you have to loose?

Yeah that's what I was thinking....just don't want to disassemble to the point that I have dangling wires around the drive if I decide to go fish or something this week. I may do it anyway....will let you know.

I need to change mine also , tried to find the plug in engine compartment and not having any luck, too much crap in the way. Was wondering why you couldnt cut the wires at sensor solder them toghter and heat shrink tube em ?

Don will probably give me heck for saying this but you could do that. They are probably more waterproof than the sensor itself is after seal of the sensor shaft wears down after a couple years.
