can u swap125 hp inboard force w/ another engine

I have a blown force 125 hp,are there any other engines i can use in it's place like a mercruiser that will bolt up to the outdrive.I do not know what the out drive is.I'm thinking about buying this boat.It is a 1989 capri bayliner.I hope someone can help me out thanks

packard,<br /><br />You are looking at an L-Drive.<br /><br />RUN away from it. They were a short lived drive system and troublesome.

If this is a L-drive then you should be able to replace the power head I think it should not be that hard since its really a older style Merc outboard power head. I'm not sure but a Merc 125 sportjet powerhead might work, but to convert to a mercruiser would be costly, but has Djohns19 suggest RUN very fast if you can, these L-drives were this biggest of many mistakes Bayliner made at that time If your not sure what the L-drive is I will descibe has best I can " Smelly 2 stroke powerhead inside the Boat under small hatch and a lousy outboard looking leg mounted to the underside of the transom notch that tilts

thanks every one for the info sounds like the l drive which i did not know about is junk bought another boatwhich i got a graeat deal on
