Can you believe it?

I was just watching "Pleasure Boating" TV show. They showed a custom-built boat, with some unbelievable features. It looked to be 18', and built in the style of those 1950s Chriscraft speed boats. Bench seats front and back, mahogany deck, with the yellow lead seams, and a blue FG hull. It was likely the wood-look was FG as well.

Now the unbelievable part. It was an inboard with a jet drive. The builder claimed the boat and motor weighed 1500#, with the motor weighing 275#,and that it burned 2.5GPH and achieved 53MPH.

Pretty impressive or BS?

I am not sure what was meant by glorified Jet Ski, this boat has seating for six, carpet, instruments, stereo. It was styled like the speed boats of the 50s, with a large motor compartment at the rear and a thick divider between the front and back bench seats.

My thoughts were that it would take 150HP or so to reach that speed, and for the motor to weigh that less and achieve that economy, seemed unbelievable.
