I am just wonder if you can change over from using a below deck fuel tank to a top side fuel tank? I have a 1990 force 90hp outboard motor and we think the gas tank is rotted because its metal so the motor wont run right. So would it be easier to change over rather then ripping out the old one?

Welcome aboard. Why do you think the tank is causing the Force to run badly?

Addressing your question, of course. The motor doesn't care or know if the fuel is supplied from above or below deck.

Yes use any tank you want. But like GA asks WHY??? Gas leaking in the bildge?
More than likley you need an inline filter or a water seperating filter.
Tilt the boat up in the front.
Unhook the gas line at the fuel pump.
Squeeze some gas in a clear container.J

I think you mean tilt the boat up on the opposite side/end to the fuel tank outlet ..let it settle and any water should cover the outlet...

Thanks for the feedback! well here is the thing we drained the gas out and it had brown particles in it so then put new gas back in and and after squeezing it into the filter it continues to have the brown particles in it. we have changed the filters numerous times same result so im thinking that those particles have to be rust! i could be wrong. I did get the boat for free from my uncle and im not sure if it was winterized right or anything! but it did run on the water just couldn't get it up to full speed without it bogging down. Any information will be helpful thankyou.

The tank is probably rusty. It can be sealed but it's easier to install a couple of good filters in the system.
They make a tank sealer that you pour in and it covers everything in the bottom and seals it.
I had trouble with a dirty tank and used a Racor Filter system. The one with the sight glass on the bottom. You can drain it and try to flush all the gunk out.
Oh yea NO vacums or ANY thing electric when working on the tank.I don't think your stupid!! Just want to be safe!!!.
They do have a siphon system for an air compressor.
Bogging.Do a compression spark test. Then the fuel pump diaphram.Make sure the tank vent is clear.
Bugs love the hose to make their nest.
Then the fuel pump make sure the diaphram is ok and then clean the carbs again after the filters have been installed.
Sent you a pm.
