Can you identify this motor (Chrysler) and give me some help with it?

I'd like to know what model motor this is if possible, its HP rating, and what its cylinder compression at starting speed should be. I'm thinking of buying a boat with this on it, and just need a little help..

thanks

Very difficult to id the motor without a model number.
Some one may be along that can id by design.
looks like it may be a 3 cylinder.
I don't have info on exact compression but rule of thumb is 100 psi minimum and within 10% between cylinders. My guess is around 140-160 psi max.
Personally I would stick with a boat with a more main line motor .Chryslers havent been built since 84.depending on the year/hp some parts can be hard to find and expensive.3 different ignition systems are used.

I went and picked the boat up today to check it out. test it, or whatever for a few days.

The motor is a model Model 857H9G Serial # 1692 85hp

The guy cranked it up for me and it ran pretty well. I think I'll do a compression test and see what I come up with.

The motor is basically a freebie with the price I'm paying for the boat. Hopefully it will test out OK and work for a little while. :)

Thank you for your help.

I did a cold compression test a few minutes ago. The engine hadnt been run in 24hrs.

I got
#1 - 139
#2 - 127
#3 - 136

Seems ok to me. I'll do it again when its warmed up.

So it took it out today and it ran GREAT... for a minute. Then the motor stopped running. It was HOT!!!!
The thing is toast. Evidentally the water pump wasnt working and it got extrememly hot really fast.

The boat sure was great for 20 seconds there. It hauled ass.

I'm sure the head gasket is toast. I get from 5-30 psi per cylinder now.

What should I look into for a real motor?
