can you lube your outboard control cables?

i have a 2002 merc 150 and my throtle cable is a bit stiff i got the controles apart was wondering if you can lube the cable all the way down

Not recommended.

The cable housing has a teflon liner, movement of the wire eventually wears a groove in the liner then the wire begins to drag harder.

Disconnected the cable may feel fine, but once re-connected and forced to work, the wire flexes into the groves and is very stiff.

Change the cables.
