Can you paint over epoxy?

My girlfriend suckered me into building cornhole boxes for her. She intends to paint them on the sides and then apply a decal to the front and cover that with some sort of clear coat so it won't peel. I'm not inclined to use pressure treated lumber and in any case, the sheet goods used are plywood. I am inclined to just seal it all up with West Systems 105 Resin and let her paint and decal later as she wishes. Does anybody see a problem with me doing this? Will she be able to cover the epoxied wood with paint and clear coat and have it stick?

I've used the epoxy before building seating and a doghouse for the back of my boat but it was later upholstered, so I've never tried to paint it. Your thoughts?

Paint over epoxy will work but takes a LONG time to dry. Use an epoxy 2 part primer and you should be fine.

Be sure to scuff it good so the paint has some bite on the epoxy.

I would wipe it down with acetone after you scuff it. A lot of epoxies have a waxy substance that surfaces as it cures. No paint or primer will like that.

On new wood I have no experience. I have treated the rot in a lot of window sills with the West product, sanded them and painted with primer and top coat using latex paint. Never noticed anything abnormal. Even though it was the almost instant set stuff, I never sanded until a couple of days went by.

my cedarstrip boat is glassed and epoxied up to the spray rails and I then painted over the whole area .the paint is still there and is in excellent shape.if the bottom of a boat can take and hold the paint I would hazard a quess your boxes will be kosher.

When I made my kid some corn hole boards I bought a pre cut 2 by 4 foot piece of oak veneer for each one and glued it on top of some usb framed with a 2 by 4 The veneer took stain well and then I protected it with some water based poly floor finish. To finish I painted on his college name with some good exterior enamel. Im sure epoxy will work but I was trying to make it as durable as I could and save a buck. The smooth finish from using the veneer will be superior than any regular plywood and make a better corn hole borad.

I wonder if you know what a beer pong table is? I made one of those also. My kid was in college for a long time and I learned stuff.
