1987 force 85hp. I want to make sure the 2nd cylinder is working (middle one) can I pull the top and bottom plugs while the motor is running? or pull them before I start the motor? or NOT AT ALL? I plan on going to get a compression tester today but I live out town (40 miles) Like I mentioned before in a earlier post, the middle plug looks way to shinny on the firing side.

thanks

Yes. Start her up on muffs and, at idle, disable (CAREFULLY!!) each spark plug in turn.

Doing that to a dead cylinder will cause no change. Doing it to a cylinder making power will cause the idle speed to drop or stall the engine.

Standard way to detect a dead cylinder.
