Re: can you tell me about my prop
The 17P means for every rotation of the prop the boat "theoretically" moves forward 17 inches. But since the prop operates in a liquid there is slippage. Only you can determine if the prop you have has good hole shot and speed. The prop is essentially the transmission for your boat. It's in high gear all the time so the correct prop is one that allows the engine to run at its maximum recommended rpm at wide open throttle with an average load. You need to make some WOT runs and note maximum speed and RPM. Recommended WOT for your engine is about 4600 - 4800 rpm. If the engine cannot reach that rpm then a step down in pitch is required. If the engine runs faster than that then a step up in pitch is required. One inch of pitch increase lowers rpm about 200 rpm. One inch decrease raises rpm about 200 rpm. Top speed is what you get when you have the proper prop. However, if you feel you need a prop change, make sure the engine is not tired and properly tuned, the hull is clean, and that you are not lugging around a couple hundred pounds of water soaked foam. Since we have no idea who the manufacturer of the prop is or the style, we can't help with whether or not it's a "good prop".
