In the car industry it is very easy to increase hp or torque by simply tuning ploys, for many just changing ecu chip will do the job.

Just changed my boat and for the first time have an MPI inboard ......... 4.3L Mercruiser.

Can you tweak these to increase power ?

Nope. Not user adjustable.

time. This performance chip will not affect engine reliability or durability. Dyno-BOOST performance chip tricks the ECU thinking the intake air much more cooler, then the ECU will send more fuel for a richer mix.

Umm BS...Marine fi is very rich as it is.

There is a product that would correct your afr but you need to port OS sensor's in your exhasut..not a easy thing to do..But you cannot change timing curves which is needed to boost hp along with afr.

Re: Can you tweak/tune/chip ?

there's no easy tuning chip to give you more power in a naturally aspirated setup. it's the same with cars, all of that "tuning chip" stuff is pretty much garbage except for a few specific applications and turbocharged engines.

if you want to make more power, there's no easy, cheap solution. i've been building high hp turbo engines for a while now and the one thing i've learned is you got to pay to play.

that means, getting your hands dirty and spending a little money or watching from the sidelines and spending A LOT of money.

Cheap, Fast, Reliable- You can only pick two, choose wisely.

Oh i know... i was just trying to give the op some options other than saying its not possible. I have a supercharged truck... i know what it takes. I do like that cmd kit tho.

While you can still get respectable gains with programmers on naturally aspirated engines (20-30HP), the problem is that it doesn't get you much performance on the water. That same 30HP on a boat might get you another 1-2 mph top end, but it's not going to really help in seat of the pants feel like it does in a car.

Its not top end im after, if so would just raise pitch of prop. What I'm after is increase in holeshot.

Ayuh,... So drop abit of prop pitch, 'n you'll get it...

Where is the ECM on a boat? I looked a little for mine & did not see it.

Can't drop pitch any lower or I won't be able to get correct WOT.
I know I said I was not after top end increase but I don't want to reduce what I have.
Which us why I was looking to see if there were tuning options.

Maybe you have the wrong gear ratio in your outdrive? What's the serial number of your outdrive, I can convert it to gear ratio.

Re: Can you tweak/tune/chip ?

Lets do this:

What type of boat
what engine
what prop
what gear ratiol
how many hours
last tune

There are so many variable's it's mindboggling Here's a post that helps with prop selection and maybe 30-40% of the poster find something other than the prop..great question's

ESSENTIAL DATA REQUIRED
When posting a question about propellers, you cannot get a reasonable answer unless you provide the following information in your post: Items 1-4 are essential for meaningful response to most questions.
1) Performance issue you are trying to correct.
2) Current prop manufacturer, model, aluminum or stainless as a minimum.
3) Current prop diameter and pitch (required).
4) Wide open throttle RPM and speed with an average load (very helpful)
5) Engine/drive make, model, year, and HP
6) Boat make model, year, length and weight

Re: Can you tweak/tune/chip ?

another thing to consider to help your holeshot is if you don't have a vented prop hub... either have yours drilled or buy a prop that has the insert adjustable vents. it's a little like adding a stall converter to an auto car. it lets the rpms wind up more to where the engine is making more power as you're launching. by turning the size of the vents, you can make a dramatic difference in your holeshot and you won't get your max rpm at wot anywhere where you can get into trouble over-revving the engine. Just a thought..

Also, a good prop shop can work wonders. not cheap, but they can play some relatively cool tricks using changes in pitch, cup, etc... and adjust your slip / effective pitch across different rpm / speed ranges. pitches for pros are averages, anything modern is going to be a progressive pitch anyhow. props are expensive, but when you start messing with the engine, it's going to be more expensive to get any notiicable gains.
