I saw this posted on another (shhh) site and no one had an answer.

Can you use a flare gun as safety equipment on your boat in Canada?

Can a US citizen enter (and exit) Canada with a flare gun in his possession?

Does it have to be checked in or registered at the border?

Roscoe

I believe that any safety equipment required by the US Coast Guard is legal on a boat visiting Canada.

Here is a site that may answer your question.

www.ncf.carelton.ca/boating/

Roscoe
Any vessel more than 5.5 meters and up to 8m is required :
by law to carry six approved distress flares
three A, B or C types and three A,B,C or D Types

They are part of minimum required equipment.

Note: These flares are not required if the vessel
is: engaged in or preparing for racing competition
and has no sleeping accomidation, or operating
exclusively in a river, canal or lake in which the
boat can never be more than one nautical mile
from shore,or propelled soley by oars or paddles.

You may enter Canada with these flares.
and you may transport them in your boat.
