10243880...350...95-00...2 or 4 bolt...Vortec truck, Gen.I crate motors and "ZZ4", roller cam, one piece rear seal

That's Your Motor.........

I'd Guess that Everything but the engine is 1988 Alpha 1.......

Don't Need No Serial #s.........

BTW,...... That's a Great Crate Motor...........

Re: cannot locate merc 5.7 serial number

huh, the problem is, i need to buy a new starter (i think) as the starter whines, but the bendex (sp?) will rise when we take the starter off and jump the ignition. oh and the flywheel does turn by hand, so i dont think the engine is locked up.

anyway, the reason i needed this was to make sure i bought the correct starter for my engine. any ideas?

edit: yeah i have an alpha one sterndrive

Re: cannot locate merc 5.7 serial number

There are 2 different starters.........

the Bolt Pattern is Either, Straight Across(12" flywheel),
Or,
Off-Set(14" flywheel).....

Just take your's to the parts house,+ throw it up on the counter.........
They'll be able to match it...........
Make Sure it's a Marine rated 1,..... Or, a Permanent Magnet 1..(Which are Sealed, by design)...........
