cannot remove 1987 OMC Cobra gimbal ring

Seperated tiller arm from gimbal assembly but cannot seperate the gimbal ring from the gimbal housing. Any tips/special tools?

it should come off easily. u did remove the 2 bolts on each side? you'll need a 1/2" hex wrench. what do u mean by tiller arm?

1/2 Hex bolts are out. I have seperated the tiller arm (stearing arm)from the top of the Gimbal post. This is done inside the top of the gimbal housing. The gimbal ring does not drop.

did u remove the shift cable? what are u trying to accomplish? more details please. i have the same setup. had it off many times.

I have the shift cable off. I am trying to grease and change the seals on the lower gimbal post in efforts to overcome difficulty when steering.

Problem resolved. Utilized special tool #0984146. Required considerable pressure. Thanks Mr. Wolf
