I have scoured the Internet, and what I've learned is, finding out which motor you have and the year is a downright pain in the buttocks.

I bought the motor used, it runs, but doesn't idle well. I'm NOT a boat mechanic, but I am familiar with small engines.

To start, I want to rebuild the carbs as this thing has sat a little while. The problem is, I cannot find my serial number anywhere online, and the ranges for serial numbers are somewhat varied.

Here is what I do know.

It is a 75hp
The serial number stamped on the transom plate is A169131
The number stamped on the carb is 73408
I know it has 4 spark plugs, therefore is a 4 cylinder
I know that it takes a gas oil mix so it is NOT a four-stroke engine

What I've been told by former owner who is the widow of the guy that owned it

He bought the motor in 88
She thinks he bought it new but isn't sure.

What I've been able to find.

Judging by most serial number series this appears to be an 1985 motor.
I know that that wire box was replaced once and the part number was 114-5772 which was used from 84 to 88

Basically, I am trying to start with a carburetor rebuild, but I do not want to get the wrong part.
I do understand that it does have two carbs (at least I think I understand that) and I need a kit for each carb.

Can anyone help identify this motor and/or provide a part number for a carb rebuild kit (Not just a gasket kit)

I certainly appreciate it.

Wow, Thank you so much, I certainly appreciate the information. I guess I feel lucky to get close, and as it turns out, I did have the year right.

Much obliged!

When looking at that part number however, it claims it is for a 3cyl.. Which makes me a bit hesitant because I know it's a four cylinder.

thoughts?

Not too sure I understand what you are referring to. Your engine is a four cylinder and if you look under Carburetor in the parts lisiting at the very last two entries on the page, you will see P/N 812953 REPAIR KIT - CARB.
