After getting work done on my Volvo Penta 3.0 GLP-C, I haven't been able to start it unless I disengage the drive, and when I try to put it in neutral to put in drive, it dies.
In the past, I would start with the throttle in neutral, turn the key, and while the engine was turning I would give it some gas and then it would fire up.
Now if I move the throttle out of neutral, the engine stalls. Now I have to push the round button at the bottom of the throttle to disengage the drive, and then it will start when I give it gas (about 1/4 throttle), and it sounds like its running well. I've left it running at about 1000RPM for 5 minutes, but when I pull back the throttle, it starts to die and when I go into neutral to re-engage the drive, the engine stalls before I can give it any gas and move forward or backward.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Eric
PS - The boat was getting service b/c it stopped accelerating past about 10mph. The marina said that the fuel pump bowl wasn't sitting properly and was leaking gas. They reassembled fuel pump and fixed fuel line leak to carb. Also "turned down idle". Maybe that's what caused these startup issues? I never had to disengage the drive before when getting it started.
