Canoe Mistake
So my sister required help and a my truck, mistake one saying i was free so she dragged me off to a auction sale. We sat there waiting to the table and chair (which came up third form last of course) when this ugly canoe came up. Well they asked for $300 bid no one bid and the price kept dropping when it hit $50 stupid here raised his hand mistake two. A minute later it was mine, so i showed my bidding number mistake three. So i am now the proud owner of the 11 foot ugly red canoe the paint is pealing and shows original birch bark paint under it and a little beat up. So my sister bought nothing as the table when to high, Nice realy nice Thanks sis, so i paid for my purchase on the way out mistake four. So i got it home threw it next to my nice 15 foot Spring bok canoe and thought i should just scrap is now. It looks look like some had done some bad diy leak repairs on it. The bow and stern has a nice later of sealant on it, as did three seam on each side mid ship evenly spaced. The sealant is hard and cracked ok so it's going to leak there for sure so i filled it up with water mistake five. I went for a beverage and came back 20 minutes later it suprised me only a few dribbles ok i thought i can work with this just reseal it. So i grabbed a heat gun and a scraper and removed all of the sealant, here is waht i found. It apears that it was last painted red directly over top the original birch bark paint. The sealant under that and gulp sheet metal screw some of which have seen better days. Yup i thought i should just scrap this pile and be down with it but OH NO stupid here decidec to replace the screws with rivets while i was at it, mistake six. So off to the dealer for supplies rivets, sealant suplies are costing me more that the stupid canoe did, oh well it will be done right...yup if i ad only been busy or and never end up at that auction sale i would not be in this mess........it is lookin less and less like a bad diy repair but that's the way it was built.......Why me.......
Why would anyone use sheet metal screws on a light aluminum canoe?
