canoe trip..what would you pay ?

What would you pay per person per day for a canoe trip of 4 or 5 days on a historic river with all meals and gear supplied? Tents, sleeping bags, good food cooked for you, camp fire singing, story telling, history ..ect All you would have to bring would be your cloths

I would pay a few hundred, but then I am not a canoe person.. But I would go if there was a 8-man raft.. Not getting in a canoe again.. I'd rather be in a large tube. Plus you forgot the fishing.. What about the fishing?

Its something Ive been considering myself except Mine will be saltwater and ill be doing it all with 1 friend.<br />How many folks are going ?Is it just your group not a bunch of strangers?<br />How much are they chargeing?

I should have made it more clear, It is something that i am thinkink about starting for a side biz and i am trying to find out if there is money to be made as well as people that would pay for that kind of trip

Jim <br />Its not a case of how much people are willing to pay!. You will have to work out how much it would cost, remember things like insurance and wear and tear on your equipment ect, then you need to add your profit.

what river?<br /><br />I have canoed a few rivres here in Utah.<br />I think it is a kick, but now My bros and I have gone to power.<br /><br />I have Old Town whitewater canoe I could sell ya to get started. Only thing, it has a lot of rock scrapes on the bottom side.<br /><br />To answer your question about how much would I pay, don't know. <br /><br />Not much demand for canoe guides.<br /><br />Had an old bus. partner, all his sons are river guides, they run different rapids on the Colorado River, not much money in it, plus being a quide is a whole lot different than going on the trip yourself. Lots of hard work and running rivers is a risky bus., esp. in a canoe.<br /><br />Spud

This is about the going rate<br />I used this source only because it was handy. But they are all basically close to this.<br /><br />Of course, rates will vary with ammeniteies, locatation,and degree of travel difficulties.<br />We have one just north of us called "Peace River Canoe Outfitters". Their rates are slightly higher due to one-way only trips, which require return portage.

Didn't know the sale of Items was allowed in Posts... Heck I can't even give a motor away with out it being edited, but we can offer to sell a canoe and get by with it... Very interesting JB isn't it??

Also, I have done a trip from one end of the AuSable (Michigan) to the other appx 120 miles. THe only things supplied to us by the livery were canoes, paddles, and transportation back from the end to our vehicles. The first time we did this it was 5 days second was six both times the cost was around 120 a canoe.

It all depends on how exotic the river is. i.e. how hard it is to do it yourself, be it form access, difficult rapids, required permits, etc... I would say $1300 per person on the high end and on down from there for a full service trip.

I used to live close to the niobrara river. Had a friend that rented canoes and tubes both. His tubes were the large dirt mover tires with canvas stretched over the top to make a large raft. He would charge 15 to 20 a day for the tubes. I am not sure about the canoes. <br /><br />If your in the right area it would be a great business. On top of the equipment cost, the legal cost will determine your rates. You will need to be insured in case some idiot dumps the canoe and gets hurt. Whenever someone else uses camping gear they will tear it up faster than their own. <br /><br />One of the outfitters I knew on the Niobrara would rent the canoes, they had private camps set up already so all the customer had to do was ride the river to the camp site which was already set up.<br /><br />If there is a demand in your area, and the trips are not guided, people will pay a couple hundred dollars a day. After all it includes food, transportation, gear. Look what they pay for motel rooms with no food or entertainment provided.
