I have been trying to replace a 460 timing cover for months now with no luck. The markings on it say DIJE-6059 AA, it is cast iron and fits on an OMC 460 marine engine. Does anyone know what engine this part came from? All the replacement 460 timing covers I found are indented on the front where the water pump mounts but mine is flat. any help would be great! Here's a pic of the part:

How about something like this? Says it's for marine applications.

The part number indicates 1971 vintage, I didn't know the timing covers changed design.

For Fords the year dating indicates the year when the part last had a design change not the actual year of the part.

For example the below listing from Motorcraft

1989 FORD TRUCK F 100-350 P/U V8-302 5.0L

Google: Ford Power Products. They designed and built the 460 for Marine.

The Google search should give you Ford Power Products Distributors. They can probably get the part.

Oh gawd! Not another one!! They actually made more than one of those things? God help you!!;)

If you don't find one/or it turns out not to be the right one I know the guy that got my old engine. He's going to put it in a truck and may just put a different timing cover on it. If that's the case I can probably get it from him.

(By the way I have EVERYTHING else still sitting on the garage floor!)

Cheers,

Rick

Re: Can't find OMC 460 Timing Cover

Well,

No. The camshaft went flat......probably over a couple of years.
For something like 17 years it was completely trouble free .....The engine didn't have all that much time on it.

I was just going to rebuild it. After I found out that I couldn't buy exhaust manifolds/risers-elbows and a coupler. I started looking for alternatives.

I bought a complete '97 454/Bravo III from a wind damaged boat locally and just swapped it all out in the garage. It took me quite a while since I also completely rewired everything and before I put anything back into the boat I re-glassed and repainted the whole engine compartment with Bilge-Kote. I also rewired the whole dash too.

It had Captains Call exhaust on it ... but I didn't put it back in. I don't think it did anything except make noise.

This winter I'm going to do a little re-upholstering and probably pull it off the trailer and "re-bunk" it!

It doesn't go any faster. (With the 460/KC it did about 60mph @ 5000 RPM with the 1.41 drive and 20p prop....Now I do 58mph @4600 (rev limited to 4700) with a 1.81 drive and 26p props)

According to my brother who bought it new It comes out of the hole more than TWICE as fast as it ever did new and accelerates from any speed FAR faster than it ever did.

I was initially a little leery of the Bravo III. Everyone told me that it would be a lot slower than a Bravo I . I think I'm getting about the same prop HP that the 460KC had. But the Bravo III has a LOT less prop slip than a single prop....... I didn't think it would be that dramatic!

Now of course.......I want an EFI 502!!!
