Can't find OMC retrofit 3.0 flywheel

Hi all,<br /><br />Just getting back to my repower project after the winter here. I'm having trouble finding a retrofit flywheel for my 3.0. I have a 1988 boat/outdrive that I'm putting a 2002 3.0 into. What I need is the flywheel with the 1990's bolt pattern that is the 1980's size (12.75" I think). I was able to find the coupler I needed on Ebay. I know the flywheel is available because the wholesaler I got the engine from had them at the time but of course has none left and has no idea when he'll be getting more now that I'm ready to buy it. hello<br /> use the 1990's flywheel with the correct coupler. the later 3.0 motors have a one piece rear main seal and use a differnt bolt pattern on the crank. but with the correct coupler it will work fine.<br /> good luck and keep posting

I have the coupler from a 1994 I got off ebay, I checked and it fits both my outdrive splines and the bolt pattern on the 2002 long block I have. Can I just get a 1990 and up flywheel? Why am I being told I need the special flywheel? Will the 1990-up flywheel fit in the 1988 bellhousing?<br /><br />So confused....

Let me clarify a bit here...<br /><br />What exactly does the retrofit flywheel do? Meaning, are the only differences between the 2 versions of the flywheel (1988 and down vs. 1989 and up) the center hole size and bolt pattern, or are there other differences? As I said I have a 1988 boat, outdrive, and bellhousing, with a 1994 coupler and a 2002 block. If I had the 2002 flywheel (or any 1-piece rear main style flywheel year) would it work?
