Can't free up lower unit

Here's my problem.... I have a 1989 70hp Johnson that I'm need to install a new water pump on. I have all of the bolts out, and the linkage disconnectd, but I can't seem to break the lower unit free. Could this possibly be seazed together? How far should I go with this before I need to worry about damaging it?<br />Fishing season is just around the corner!!!!!<br />Help!!!!

Hi No help here but I am currently beating a 1982 70 hp Johnson with a 10 lb sledge hammer to free a lower unit. Its the only part left on this motor that worth anything. I collect parts! I have almost all the mid section broke out so the bolts have nowhere to hold and it still won't comapart. Hope yours comes apart easier.<br />steve
