Well I can't get the plug out. I must have put it on to tight this time. The wrench just slips off of the brass plug. I tried channel locks, sockets, and crescent wrench. Does anyone have any tips?
Thanks

Drill a hole thru it & install the appropriate size easy out & turn it to the left.

If you have too, can you simply replace the whole insert? On mine, theres a plate with three screws that holds the whole thing to the transom. I replaced mine when I first got my boat with a brass one, the original was plain steel and rusted pretty badly. I brazed a "T" handle on my one plug, it lets me get a good grip on it and I can tighten it buy hand. I brazed it on so that it sits level when it's tight. I also lube the threads from time to time too, it seems to keep it from seizing up. That plug doesn't need to be super tight, just good and snug, as you can see they don't work their way out very easily.

If you have room to drill from the inside out, use a small drill bit to get through the middle, and increase drill size in small increments. The brass will grab the drills and just might loosen up and unscrew itself.
Then, like the others said, a little grease, and not too tight. It is a pipe thread, so 1/4 turn after engagement should be enough.

Drill a hole through the fitting as big as you can, tap it and thread a bolt in far enough to get a backing nut on it with a lock washer. Liberally soak the plug with PB Blaster or other penetrating oil for a couple of days and back it out.

Those plugs can corrode up in salt water. I needed to remove the garboard drain and chuck it in a vise to use the pipe wrench to get the plug out. I now use anti-seize on the threads. it works very well.
