Cant get Gas in ??

OH MY GOD I cant believe it, My new (circa 1983 Starcraft is finally ready to fire up in my driveway. I go to put gasoline in and thats when i notice the filler cap is actually lower than the pipe running to the tank???????????????????? Anyhow after getting soaked in gas and also trying my race can with hose (VP Race JUG) Ive givven up, There has to be a way of doing this? I cant believe someone was special enough to put it where it is? In the future I may put a top mount filler cap on the boat along with a fuel shut off switch. Any ideas guys? Thanx Mike

Put the tongue of the trailer on the ground, that will raise the filler cap above the gas tank. Had to do this with my Bayliner

Are you positive that the filler cap is lower? Perhaps the hose has been replaced and there is a little to much slack in the line. You may also want to check carefully the breather hose for any obstructions like a mud wasp nest or something. I would think the manufacturers of starcraft would have realized a serious flaw like this.

Its a 1983 Boat? I think its a safe assumption that the fuel filler hose has been replaced at some point during its lifetime so to place blame on Starcraft may be somewhat of a stretch....

Upon closer examinatio ?? I cant believe it the previous owner had installed what looks like a abs 90 degree elbow in the filler hose assemble, I finally managed to get 20 litres in it by hose clamping a foot long piecs of hose to a blue tranny funnel and carefully filling it bit bye bit. I will have to remove the entire assembly and replace it with a flush mount gas filler cap on top if I can find such a thing .Thanx for replies guys ,I almost had it running but it needs some tune up bits for sure. Later gotta find some cap rotor and wires points somewhere Thanx all Mike
