Well, I posted this once before but I cant seem to find the post in this new format.

Anyway, Seems after I have been running in weeds (South end of Greenwood Lake NJ) at a slow speed and then try to get on plane the boat wallows and then suddenly the RPM's go from 3,000 to 5,000. Normally at 3,000 RPM I get on plane in less than 15 seconds.

I stop, reverse the throttle and then I'm off with out a problem. What is causing this?

Are weeds causing cavitation?

Is this normal?

You might tilt your engine up to help rid yourself of the problem.....as high as you can and still get your pee water good and solid and be able to propel your boat.

One reason I left OMC and went to Merc years ago was the gearcase. The OMC gearcase stuck out in front of the lower unit and you absolutely couldn't run in weeds. Merc was smooth, similar to the way lower units are designed today.

also as the prop chews up the weeds, small bits can be sucked into the cooling system. in Florida several year a go we had a horrible problem with hydrilla growing in our fresh water lakes, it ruined many a water pump and engine.

Thanks for the posts!

I know what you mean, when I put the boat on the trailer, both intake grills were clogged with weeds !

Problem is there is a large portion of the lake that has WEEDS!! and of course BASS.

Do you think the 9.9 will do any better than the 150?
