88' 5.0 cobra. Pulled outdrive for service. Came off smooth like always. Ready to reinstall and it gets hung up on something. Nothing should have moved! Bearing turns fine, shaft engages splines in coupling ok, but about 2" to go and out drive can't go in any further. Alignment should not have moved. I've had this drive off many times quite easily. What am I missing? I see nothing unusual when shinning a light into the transom mount. I have an old piece of input shaft and that gets hung up also when I try slide it in. Seems to go as far as the beginning of the taper on the shaft. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Try turning the prop fwd while pushing. If it is still not moving, take it off and start over.Usually the slightest turn of the prop will let it move in.Charlie

get the biggest burr-free screwdriver you can find. stick it through the u-joint and crank the ujoint back and forth while you ease the drive on. be patient, it's a bugger if the bellows are swollen. coat the u joint with oil. I used a hydraulic oil additive that is very slippery.
