Can't get prop back on.

I took my prop off my alpha 1 5.7 merc. to get it repaired. Now I cant get the damn thing back on. It has a sleeve that fits the groves on the alpha spindle and square on the out side that fits the prop but it does not go down all the way. The threads on the spindle don't even clear the prop to get the nut on. I'm off by about 2 or 3 inches.

I bet you have the black plastic sleeve in backwards, not the female splined "sleeve", the larger one that drops into the prop. . . . did this once in the dark and it wasn't obvious until the morning . . . It's tapered and will only work one way. It also doesn't look right as the big opening sits on the thrust washer, but it looks precarious until you get it all the way down. If this isn't clear we'll probably need pics

I had the sleave on the wrong side of the prop. It fits like it should. oops!
