Pretty exasperated. This watery oil bilge in my 1988 MCM 7.4 L's oil pan is giving me fits. I've tried a plunger pump and two of those little drill driven rotary pumps. Nothing comes out, and the dipstick shows full. I want to spew profanity. I would not have thought a simple oil change would be impossible. What's next?

Is it cold where you are? Might be too cold and you'll have to warm up the sludge to pump it out.

First of all, cleaning emulisified (water and oil mixture) oil out of an engine is anything but a simple oil change.
You are going to have to run the engine to get the oil warm. It rapidly looses it's viscosity and flows better warm.
Go get yourself a GOOD oil evacuation pump The kind with a Jabsco pump mounted on a 2 1/2 gallon bucket (west marine) Those drill transfer pumps are junk.
Run the motor (NO LOAD) for about 15 minutes. Drain the oil, and replace the oil filter.
The bad new is that you are going to have to do this several times. change the filter each time.
After the first time, run the oil until the oil gets to full operating temp. About 40 minutes at a fast idle.
I take it you have already found and fixed the problem? right?

By the way, spewing profanity is also required.

I am in Maine, maybe 50 degrees. I haven't found the problem yet. The stepson dropped the boat off here with a pretty spotty story about how this happened. I thought I'd try to get that slarp out of there and light it up on the muffs to get a better idea of what's going on here. I am afraid to run it with that stuff in there. I think I'm going to be looking first at the intake surfaces, and the lifter valleys on the block.

Pull the drive, drain the block and manifolds, add 1 gal. of diesel or Kero. run motor at idle
for 30 seconds at a time .might loosen up the mix for pumpout

Ayuh,... Can you reach the oil pan Drain plug,..??

It might be easier to just yank it now,+ work in the garage....

Re: Can't get the chocolate mousse out!!??

I can't even see the oil pan, much less the plug. And i don't really have a garage. I have the boat on a trailer, and I've rigged a tarp awning to shed rain. I'm not really equipped to pull the motor, so I'm trying to decide if I should send the kid to a legitimate marine wrenchman if I find pulling the engine is required, or if I should try to fabricate a lift of some kind. I have a 10' X 15' shop I could work in, but it's 50' away from the boat over yard. (Pull the motor, put it in the truck, back up to the shop, fabricate a stand, blah, blah, blah). Could be Halloween by the time I did all that. Hey Doctur, I can't figure out why you suggest pulling the drive to thin the oil and run it. PS - I appreciate ALL the pointers guys.

Ayuh,... That way you won't be burning up the impeller in the drive...
Running it Dry, also won't be adding More water to the oil...
And, at this point, Freeze Cracking is the most probable cause, so the drive has to come off, before the motor comes out anyways...

Re: Can't get the chocolate mousse out!!??

Well, my whole approach to posting info on this forum may be a bit screwy - I have another thread

http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=386143&highlight=mousse

where I noted that this rig overheated at the end of last season, was then run slow for some period of time, drained, fogged, and put away. 1988 454, Thunderbolt IV, early Bravo 1, (ser# OB804538), thru transom exhaust, Stainless Marine manifolds and risers. My readings suggest that this drive has no impeller, it's an engine mounted raw water pump. I should probably put the whole 'can't get the oil out' thing in that post, but I've seen others get a knuckle dusting for adding new problems to old posts, and I'd like to stay out of trouble on this forum. I've posted a pic of my state of the art marine repair facilty, and one of the drive.
