Hi,

Got a 100hp Johnson javelin from the late 80s with a Johnson Control Centre remote. I got a new ignition barrel to fit but when I tried to open it the 2 screws won't budge. They've started to malform now, how can I get them out?
Guessing I'll have to drill the heads off? What size thread pitch are they? Will I find replacements at Home Depot?

Thanks

What is the size and thread of the screws? Are they metric or Imperial?

Is this the correct part number?

A Javelin from the late 1980's ??----Model # is ?-----Those screws would have a 1/4-20NC thread.----They are not metric.

I drilled the heads off and got it open. Couldn't find any stainless screws the right size locally but found these. I think they're galvanised.

Any issues using these rather than stainless?

They will work just fine !
Thanks.

Putting it back together now with a new ignition barrel, I'm a bit worried about the brass screws shorting on the body. Note the screw I'm pointing at and the part on the body which will come close to it. Is there any tricks to this? Have I mounted the ignition barrel incorrectly? At the least I'll wrap the terminals up in electrical tape.

What a kerfuffle. Turns out the new ignition barrel is deeper than the original, hence the interference. Had to move the wires around a lot and mount the new one slightly off centre. Wrapped all the terminals up in electrical tape and seems good now. Thanks for all the help 😊
