I've looked here
http://www.marinshopen.se/guide/guide.htm, and a few other places, but can't come up with a year on this motor.

Chrysler
Model 428HD
Ser. # 3838

Could this be a '72??
It is styled very similar to a mid 80's Johnson.
White with red/silver/ and black stripe on cowl.

Thanks for your help.

roscoe,
Looks more like it's a 1977-81 Model, according to Modelguide. Hard to narrow down those chryslers.

Hey roscoe,
If you don't get a definite answer, I think member "Alcan" will know. You may want to post it directly to him.

rickdb1boat, You are probably right. It doesn't look like an early 70's, but I was trying to figure out the year by looking at the model #.

I should have known better.
If anyone is interested, it is on ebay and people are bidding on it like crazy, 25 bids already and 5 days to go, $225!!! Craaaazy Man.

Why do so many people pay so much for 5-20 year old sight unseen no warranty motors, when they could buy them new or 1 year old with warranty right here on iBoats ??

Hi Roscoe
Sorry, My books show no such #S for 4hp or 4.5 hp. Maybe that's why they are bidding so high. A one of a kind motor! Just kidding.

Th closest I can get is 42H8D. This model would be a 1978.

alcan, thanks. I double checked the number on ebay, and i have it correct. I bet they transposed the numbers when they posted it.

There is also a private party Force 5hp bid up over $400 and climbing w/7 days to go. ??
I bought one of iboats merc4hp 2002's for $659, w/warranty, gave it to dad for xmas. And I just ordered one for myself. That makes much more sense, atleast to me.

Hi Roscoe
Just to get of the subject a little. Ever been to an auction? Let me tell you. You never know what you see folks paying for stuff. I've seen C.Z.s go for more than diamonds, fake Rolaxes go for more than the real ones sold five minuites earlier. At the same sale they sold brand new outboards for half again as much as new. This just proves that there really is a butt for every seat. Have fun.

Yup, been to plenty of farm auctions, and a few estate auctions. The good big ticket items go for pennies on the dollar. The cheap broken junky stuff goes for dollars on the penny.

I guess I need to get a bunch of junky old stuff to sell, I could be rich. But more likely I would just have a bunch of junk I couldn't get rid of.
