I cannot identify the motor I want to buy. It has "A168380" on the plate. Does anyone have the ability to tell me what this motor is? (Year, model, hp, etc). I do all my own repairs, and if possible, would like to find a number that is recognized by parts suppliers

Hi & welcome to iboats!

Looks like you have yourself a 4 cylinder MERCURY 75 ELPT ( 75 H.P. (1985) Serial No: 0A168380 Model No: 1075625 Parts Catalog No: 90-13289

You could search the model number online for a parts catalog, search the parts catalog part number or here's one for you...http://www.mercruiserparts.com/selectDocs.asp?doc_nbr=13289

Also your Merc OEM service manual part number is 90-86134-4.

It says 25xd on the side. I punched the serial # in on the site I use, and it suggested a 75 hp motor too, but it wasn't a solid match. .......I'm still confused

MercNet (actual Brunswick/Merc, Mariner motor/parts site) says exact same thing.. don't understand tha confusion?

So if it is a 2 cylinder " looper " style motor it would be in the early 1980's .----That is when they marketed these as the 25XD models.------And a picture allows for quick identification too.

That is obviously a 25 hp and the decals make it an 84 or 85 model !!

That's what I thought too. I have just got to figure out a positive identity on it, so I can order parts.

Looking things over racerone is correct with it being an 1985 model. Image searching a 1985 25 HP XD shows you this, http://www.smalloutboards.com/m2586x.htm

Using the serial number in the link above indicates you may have posted an incorrect serial number. The 3'rd number 8 probably should be a 2 like seen in the link.

Using the number with a 2 vs 8 shows a 25 HP XD engine model number 1025205 which is a 1985. Search the model number online for a parts catalog or search [h=1](MERCURY/MARINER (18/20/25 H.P. (XD)) ENGINE COMPONENTS).[/h]
