I have a Force 50 HP, 508M8C. Purchased last fall. Ran great last fall, winterized well- and ran well this spring. Took it up to the Cisco Lakes in MI-(Thousand Island Lakes) and wasn't able to keep it running. Would always turn over.. idles well- than sometimes it runs, sometimes when you forward the shift, throttle- it dies. It will idle for 10- 15 minutes.. runs great one outing.. but than shortly after... if will die.

checks carb, fuel pump, new and fresh oil/gas mix. Replaced 3 sets of spark plugs... same thing? Also it will backfire occasionally, and again: one time it runs and hums like a kitten. Next time starts, runs rough, backfires and dies! Help needed. I'm fairly mechanical and will tear down what i need. But i guess i need help in where and what to do first.

Re: Can't keep my 50HP force motor running

One topic about a month ago had the problem, one time it's perfect next time it will not even run. He conducted a visual on all wirings for failed insulation and found burnt or rubbed off wires on his trigger assembly. Carefully, look on these wires including the one from the stator. You will need to remove the flywheel to have full access on the wires. Make sure you mark or picture everything so when putting it back it will be easier.
