i have a 1996 vovlo 7.4 with a dp...i am trying to pass the shift cable through the rubber hose at the transom but it wont push through to go to the drive...tried to use a fish wire and pushed it into the inside of the boat and then taped the shift cable to the fish wire but everytime it gets right to the transom it sticks and tears off....anyone have any tricks to make this more simple?

If clearance allows start from the outside of the boat and push it in. :)

i have tried pushing the cable from the outside in..but it wont budge too much of a bend at the transom....but the cables i need are a teleflex cc214 and the eyehole on the shift control end does not detatch itself...so i have to go from the inside out..

hello
on some applications that have tight bends on the tubes especially carolina clasics:). I tape the tapered nozzle off a silicone sealat tube to the end of the cable, then have someone on the outside to help guide it once it comes throgh. it wil pass just sometimes the end gets hung on the tiny ledge at the tube area where it meets the transom. have patience and carefully play with it and it will go.
good luck and keep posting

Re: cant pass new shift cable through the transom

finally after two days of messing around i decided to take off a water line so i wouldn't put too much of a bend and it went through....it seems like everytime i try to fix something another problem comes up....my part hasn't come in so i put the old cable back to where it was originally and when i went to hook up the nut onto the shift mechinism....it didnt have enough thread for me to put the nut on....baffles me???can anyone tell me how make adjustments...the teleflex cc214 cable has a threaded end on the drive unit but at the controls it is fixed on the cable ..
