I have a 1994 Aquatron C/C with a 3.0l Merc. I changed my prop pitch to 17 from 19 to increase my hole shot and WOT. Well Hole shot was outstanding and speed was 30+ but WOT not much above 3400. Merc 3.0 WOT is 4200-4400. I don't think the Tach would be off that far? Now I brought this boat back from the dead and I did all new interior along with some engine work. I placed the engine control module in the correct spot by measuring a similar boat. I assumed which is bad on me, that the cables are adjusted to the proper length. I need to do some more investigating and determine if the eng controls are opening up the carb all the way. I?m asking if I?m going in the correct direction or should I be looking at my worst fear of having water in the hull? Any thoughts are much appreciated.

Look on the back of your tach and see if you have a small dial to select the number of cylinders. Make sure its set on the correct number. It might be that simple

Re: Can't reach WOT

I have come to this site for advice in the past, and most of the time people are spot on. Well today I posted a WOT question and I would like to thank HNT for the great advice he was SPOT ON!!!!! Once you mentioned the switch the light bulb in my head went off. Recalling my Dwell Meter that i use also has a 4,6,8, cylinder switch. I dropped what i was doing and ran home live close so it was a quick trip. Well got under dash and there it was switch in 6 cy position. I moved switch and hooked up water and low and behold Tach is reading a lot higher when i advance throttle. Now i need to put the boat on the water and make sure I am within WOT and the 17 didn't push me over the top. Once again MANY THANKS TO HNT, you saved me some time T/S and sent me to the simplest fix. I learend something today it always feels good to learn. HNT if you are ever in Southern Maryland please shoot me a quick line i owe you lunch..

If the boat isn't a monster slug you should over rev with a 17. Working backward from about 32 mph(guess) using 10% slip your real rpm was probably about 4400 but should be over revving. Of course estimating rpm this way probably isn't the best.

Re: Can't reach WOT

Aquatron,

I'm glad that it seems to have worked out. I too have benefited greatly form the collective knowlege found on this site. It has a been a great resource for me as I got back into boating after a 15 year break. It was just a lucky guess, you don't owe me lunch or anything else.

Enjoy the summer and happy boating!!

HNT
