Can't seem to get the prop of my 89 Sea Ray BR 180

I placed an order with PropMD last Saturday, but I'm having trouble getting it off to send it to them. Here's a pic to see if anyone can give me some suggestions. I have tried unscrewing it, but I am stripping the nut. Also, do you guys think that the other prop needs repairing? It's not dinged up, but some of the paint is chipped off. LMK what you think? Thanks!

Your turning it counter clockwise,right?
Perhaps the shaft and prop hub are turning inside the prop.
like a spun hub.If you can't see the hub when the socket is in place draw a line across the nut and hub and try,
then note if the line is broken.

Ayuh,... 1st prop looks fine,... paint it if the scratches bother ya...

2nd pic, it looks like ya haven't pried up the lockin' tabs,... the 1s at 2:0'clock, 7:eek:'clock, 'n 11:eek:'clock look locked...
That funky washer moves With the nut...

Then turn the nut off, lefthanded, 'n pull the prop...

Hopefully, the shaft was greased when it was put on... otherwise, it might come off Hard, or not at all...

You're probably just spinning the shaft in the hub.

Try this: Put the shifter in reverse. Place a short piece of 2 x 4 between the prop blades and the underside of the ventilation plate. Using a 1-1/16" socket, rotate the nut and lock washer counterclockwise. The prop should then pull off.

See if this helps ya'.

Thanks for your replies....I finally got it off with a short socket. I pried the little washer, then loosened it with ease. Thanks Bondo. I didn't know I even had an extra prop stashed in the boat. I just installed it, but not sure how much torque to give it. I just gave it enough, I think. Now I can patiently wait for the other prop to get repaired.

Ever since I replaced the prop, it's not spinning when I fire up my boat.

Just needed a little tightening.

Ayuh,.... Did you install the proper sequence of parts,..??
Did ya grease the prop shaft, before ya put the prop on,..??

Some(most) props need a thrust hub on the shaft 1st, then the prop, then the lockin' aft hub, then the lockin' washer that you had to bend...

Oh,... did ya rebend the lockin' tabs, after ya installed it,..??
If ya don't, the prop can spin itself Off, when shiftin' into reverse...

I finally got it to work right after I posted the Msg. Thanks for your input though. I did rebend the washer and everything is working good as new.
