Cant select forward and reverse

Hi,

Is there any reason why i cant select forward and reverse.(mercury 650) if i set/adjust the cable i can get forward and neutral or reverse and neutral if i adjust it the other way! there doesnt seem to be enough travel from the cable to be able to select all of them.

Any ideas??

I'm not sure what you are getting at. What were you doing with the controls before this happened?

Hi,

Controls were bought seperate from the outboard, so when i connected it up i had to adjust the threaded part of the cable at the outboard. sometimes you can adjust them and they will grind but not quite engage if you try to find a mid point between forward and reverse. the throttle kicks in before it goes into gear. does it make sense? im not quite sure how else to explain!
