First, I am new to this forum.
Second, It looks like a very useful site.
Third, Here is my problem.
25HP 4-Stroke Big Foot model was purchased new in
'03. It ran last year, and the first time out this
year ok, and then problems.
The second time out this year, backing my pontoon
away from the pier, the motor seemed sluggish in
reverse. I shifted into forward, began to accelerate, went about 15 seconds, or 500', and
stalled. I remember hearing a short, single beep,
and from reading the owners manual, about the low
oil, and overheat alerts. I have since checked the
oil and it is at or near the full mark, after 5-10
hours of use. I have come close to turning the motor over a couple times since then, but if it
barely starts, it is only for seconds, very roughly, before sounding the same single chirp
alert. Of course, I am in touch with the dealer,
since the motor is under warranty, but our only
experience with them was a very unfavorable one,
so I am looking for information at this point.
If I cannot resolve problem with minor troubleshooting, I would, of course, contact Mercury Marine, and explain to them the situation
with the dealer. It had nothing to do with the
motor.
Thank you for any advice or feedback.
