Well, I recently swapped the power head from my 1973 trigger 85hp, to an 80hp 1979 Merc Mariner.
Nice motor. Runs top notch but, I am using the 1973 Mercontrol ( which looks identical to the Mariner Control) and when I release the throttle control I back down to 5 MPH.
My mechanic says you can't do anything about it???
I am thinking of putting a rubber washer between the Throttle/Shift lever and the case to provide more resistance. I think I can tighten down just right to compansate for spring tension from the motor. Would need to test in the water through.
Has anyone ever had/fixed this problem??
