have a canvas that I use while the boat Is at the dock on a lift. it is a cheap one from walmart. great condition but has some mildew on the inside from sitting outside. can you wash it in a big washing machine with something that will remove the mildew without weakening the fabric? is there something I can spray on after to waterproof it? have a custom canvas that I use for travel. thought that the cheap one would be temperery but can't justify putting the good canvas on.

Re: canvas question

Best to spot clean it. Go right to the big gun-- bleach and keep as much off the seams as possible. Rinse very well.

Re: canvas question

One cup of bleach in a gallon of warm soapy water. Get the canvas wet with straight water then scrub the canvas with the soapy water/bleach solution and a soft bristle brush. Rinse well. Hang in the sun to dry. When it's about 75% dry, put it back on the boat (it might shrink up if left to totally dry out). Treat with 303 protectant (or even Scotchguard) to rewaterproof it.
