I have a 2005 5.0 TKS, s/n 0W319986 in my boat. Getting ready to do a tune up and my head is spinning from trying to order parts. Merc parts catalog says that boat use 86365A05 wires for $90, but several places only sell the 816761Q 4 wires, which state they are for Thunderbolt IV and V, for around 50 bucks. Cap and rotor seem to be the same parts as older engines and used for quite a long time. Is there any reason I SHOULD use the exact OEM wires? I really can't see them being any different aside from possibly construction. Or recommend me some decent pre-made wires that will work with a p/n?

I'm finding no less than 3 Sierra wires that say they are for my engine. 18-8804, 18-8828, and 18-8821. Manual says 863656A05 wires.

You can get any Mercruiser V8 small block wire set. The OE is unnecessary.
I do however use OE caps and rotors. And sensors.
